I know Twitter isn’t everyone’s ‘thing’. In fact, I’ll be honest – this time last year I watched Laura on Twitter and thought “Pfffft. Pointless Drivel.”.
I did.
But then she coerced me into using it a little, ‘for the business’. Yes, she actually played that card.
So I dabbled a bit. I now know I got it all wrong to start with, but thankfully a few nice people spoke back anyway. And I struck up a friendship or two. Then a few more people chatted to me. I saw a question I could answer – so I did…
And before I knew it, my rather solitary working day was broken up by noisy chatter. By a never-ceasing stream of conversation I could dip into whatever time of day or night I was taking a break, I had a place where I could let off some steam, share news and advice… And it has become an integral part of my day. I don’t use it to drum up business. My clients don’t generally hang out on Twitter (though do come and say hello if you do). I don’t use it to deliberately ‘network’ other vendors. I just use it to be sociable – it’s my ‘water cooler’ place that I can go and be silly, catch up on news, have a chat.
And apparently, that’s what you’re supposed to do, because by talking rather a lot about all sorts of nonsense to all kinds of people I’m now in EasyWeddingSearches Top 20 Wedding Tweeters in the UK. In at No.17, no less. Surrounded by illustrious company, I hasten to add – some really fab friends I’d never have met if it weren’t for that little blue bird (and Laura’s nagging).
So – if you are on Twitter, stop by and say hello. I’m @courtenayphoto. Oh, and I don’t just follow everyone – you need to say hello if you want me to follow you back. Like I said – I’m there for a chat, so do come talk to me.
