1st Wedding Anniversary Congratulations

Many congratulations today go to Alison and Simon Nobles who celebrate one year of marriage. Alison and Simon were married this day a year ago at St Anne’s Church in Weymouth and then went on to Lulworth Castle in Dorset for their reception. Their wedding day was full of fun and we were even treated to medieval capers with a jester who loved to eat fire and knights on horse back jousting for favour.

Happy anniversary guys, I hope you have a wonderful day.

Best wishes

Courtenay

New Bride Top Tips #7

Another of our last years couples provides us with their favourite pictures and their Top Tips for a successful wedding. Alison and Simon’s wedding took place on the 29th August last year; They married in the lovely St Annes Church in Weymouth and then traveled to Lulworth Castle in Dorset for their reception. A beautiful sunny relaxed day and we were even treated to some fantastic jousting and knightly shenanigans which was great fun.

Here is what Alison and Simon (well mostly Alison!) had to say…

Hi Courtenay,

Sorry it’s taken so long but I am always late with everything, as you know! (Except for turning up to my wedding…)

I am finding it really difficult to find just one photo that we love the most. Our big day was had so many different parts to it, which were all important for different reasons. So it’s virtually impossible to pull just one photo out!

There are about four that stand out for me.

This one -

Because after NINE YEARS (!) that was the moment we were finally married. In the church where my Mum and Dad had had got hitched too. I’d expected the ceremony to be very sad and emotional because of losing my Dad almost exactly three years before. But it wasn’t. The sun was out, everyone was in great humour and the vicar forgetting Simon’s name had got everyone giggling. And there was a great round of applause and a cheer when he pronounced us man and wife.

And then -

It kind of sums us up. Simon being naughty and me half-telling him off, I can’t remember what he said, but it was something cheeky.

Of course -

Just a moment on our own..

And lastly -

The jousting was a surprise for everyone (apart from a few close friends and family). I love that we are relaxed here, on our throne – so Posh and Becks (!) – with our mates, being not very classy at all.

As for the top tips? Well I suppose they are the things most brides would say.

1) Your day is about YOU. Do not try to keep everyone happy, you only get one go (well hopefully) and it has to be all that you desire – big or small. So be firm but polite with anyone who wants to stick their oar in!

2) If it’s not done by the night before then you don’t need it. You’ll be too busy enjoying yourself to notice that tiny detail!

3) Palm off the responsibility to someone else on the Big Day – we had two great friends who were the ‘go-betweens’ with caterers etc. Any questions – and there were only a couple as we had such brilliant people behind the scenes making everything go smoothly – and they dealt with it.

4) ENJOY YOURSELF. I woke up on the day of the wedding and just decided I would uncharacteristically go-with-flow. Having the go-betweens (Tip 2!) sorted I just had a glass of champagne in the morning while getting ready and just tried to relax and take it all in. We had twelve hours of emotion, food, fun and partying to remember…

5) Take mental snap shots. Every now and then we just would spot something and tell each other. I remember seeing people’s faces as my brother and I walked into the church, watching the guests on the lawn eating canapes from afar and their faces again when the knights walked into to announce the jousting.

It was the best day of our lives together…and we’ve been together a long time…but as Simon says, ‘he just wanted to be sure…’ ahem.

Hope that’s ok. I do go on a bit…

Alison (& Simon!)
xx

Lulworth Castle Dorset Wedding of Alison & Simon

Another lovely sunny day (seems to be good at the moment) and I’m off the Alison’s (the bride) family home in Weymouth Dorset for the usual Bridal preparations.
Next its a short hop to the the Church, St Annes to capture the arrival of the guests, most of whom turn up in the laid on coach and of course Simon the Groom. Then its a sharp walk back to Alison’s house to trail her walk to church.  Alison’s brother is giving her away today and the Church is where her parents married many years before. We arrive back at St Annes and a lively fun and emotional ceremony follows.
Back out into the sunshine and Alison and Simon make their farewells and head off in a classic open top Morris minor, the guests then climb aboard the coach and we all make our way across country to the reception venue, the fantastic Lulworh Castle in Dorset.
On arrival of the coach we immediately get the two or three formal pictures over and done with making the most of Lulworth Castles wonderful front stone staircase. Its out the back of Lulworth Castle now into the grounds for Pimms and canapes entertainment by a string quartet. A very relaxed atmosphere, laughter and good company in the lovely summer sunshine.
Alison, Simon and I slip away to give them a little quiet time and to capture a few tender moments for their album, we even made it all the way to the top of the Tower in Lulworth Castle, well worth it for the views of the Jurasic coastline and Dorset countryside alone.
Back inside again and time for the formal sit down meal, followed by the funny speeches. Then an interruption…by two very large and Armour clad Knights! Demands of the Bride and Groom to accompany them immediately, we all head out into the evening air and across the grounds to a well laid out roped off area. Alison and Simon were placed atop a throne, obviously King and Queen for the day, and we were all then treated to some fantastic entertainment which included a fire juggling Jester, Jousting Knights and many other Chivalrous (or not so) Knightly things; Great fun.
A good hour later and the Knights bid their farewells, the setting sun turning the Dorset sky a crimson red we head back to Lulworth Castle. The flares have been lit and the barbecue’s are in full swing. Evening guests start to arrive and then its indoors into the great hall for Alison and Simons first dance together as man and wife. We are thoroughly entertained by a great band from Weymouth, The Crack and soon the party is in full swing and my time to say good bye. What a fantastic day!

Lulworth Castle Dorset Wedding of Louisa & Simon

Ian had a fabulous day with Louisa and Simon, they were a very lovely laid back couple who had put a lot of time and effort into their wedding. Louisa had taken a lot of trouble over the little details of the day to make sure everything was just perfect and the flower arrangements were particularly stunning. The weather was kind with plenty of sunshine, which is just what is needed at Lulworth Castle in Dorset. Louisa’s family had all come over from China, which made for a lively mix with Simon’s family, there was a lot of catching up to do and this added to a very emotional event, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house during the ceremony. It was a very relaxed day, with loads of small people running about adding to the excitement of the event. In the evening things heated up with a fabulous band who had everyone up and dancing almost immediately, the atmosphere was just wonderful. The day culminated with a wonderful fireworks display which lit up the grounds and castle with fantastic colours…a perfect end to a perfect day.

Lulworth Castle Dorset Wedding of Tina & Andrew

This was a wedding that reaped the benefits of the pre-wedding shoot.
Tina was very nervous before the shoot, convinced she would never like any of the images of herself, and that photography on the wedding day was only to start at the church when she was looking her best.
During the pre-wed session, however, she relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed herself – and after she’d seen the images she decided that having me with her on the morning of the wedding would be really comfortable, and maybe a good thing after all.
The wedding was well planned, with stacks of activities at Lulworth Castle set up for the children – big and small. Bouncy castle, bat and ball activities, a limbo set… the sun shone, and the castle lawn was covered with people just having a great time. The band was fantastic and got everyone up and dancing, and the evening was rounded off with huge fireworks. A great Dorset weeding!
