Back to Athelhampton house near Dorchester Dorset last Saturday for the wedding of Jenny and Simon.
First I attended Jenny’s family home for the usual Bridal preps and then headed my way across country in the most beautiful Autumn sunshine to Athelhampton the scene for today’s celebrations. Fabulous autumnal colours of red’s, golds, oranges etc the theme for today’s wedding oh and a 1940′s style wedding dress to die for. Jenny arrived in her beloved Bentley looking absolutely stunning and made her way to the great Hall where Simon and their guests were waiting.
After the lovely ceremony, a blessing was performed in the pyramid garden and then everyone relaxed and enjoyed the pimms and the warm afternoon sunshine. Jenny, Simon and I slipped away for a short while to capture some special pictures for their album and then upon returning I captured the few formal photographs.
Time to head to the Coach House, the wedding breakfast and I am invited to dine, how lovely and unexpected. Cutting of the wedding cake (another fab Lisa Notley creation) and then the official wedding speeches… coffee and cake in the long room.
Time to call Jenny and Simon to the dance floor for their first song and then the fab Fairplay band took up the mantle to rock the night away.
Another lovely day

Athelhampton House Dorset Wedding of Emma and William
So last Friday I returned to the lovely Athelhampton House near Dorchester Dorset for the wedding of Emma and William. A nice day, not hot sunshine but warm and bright and not a rain cloud in sight, excellent. I visited Emma at home first for the usual bridal preps and then headed off to Athelhampton House to meet William.
Emma arrived looking beautiful and the ceremony then followed in Athelhampton’s Great Hall. Then out into pleasant sunshine for champagne and canape’s and a little quiet wander in the beautiful landscaped gardens for Emma, William and I to capture some more intimate moments.
Over to the Coach House for the wedding breakfast, cutting of the fabulous chocolate wedding cake (definitely my favorite Lisa Notley creation so far) and of course the traditional wedding speeches.
The evening began with Emma and Williams first dance and then the DJ stepped up the tempo and the dance floor filled.
Another lovely day, congratulations Emma and William.

Athelhampton House Dorset Wedding of Lisa & Chris
So Saturday saw me heading off to a local venue (nice to be near home for a change) the lovely Athelhampton House nestled in the heart of the Dorset countryside, for the wedding of Lisa and Chris. Now I have to make an admission at this point..In all the years that I have been to Athelhampton House for weddings, I have never had a completely dry one, always some rain at some point! However today looks to be the day I am going to break the curse
Anyway, first I head into Sherborne in Dorset to Lisa’s parent’s house for the usual Bridal Preparations and my chance to capture a few of the smaller details of the day, shoes, perfume etc Then it’s time to wind my way through the lovely (sunny!) Dorset countryside to Athelhampton House. On arrival I catch up with a very nervous Chris and his best men, a bit of light banter and a wander in the gardens to help calm the nerves. Time to pop in to the Coach House and long Hall where the wedding Breakfast will take place later to capture a few more of those all important details.
(Just to explain a little about my couple, both Lisa and Chris arrived in the UK just under two weeks ago when I met them for the first time, they had booked me via email conversations from Australia where they both live. Lisa is in fact English but Chris is very much all Aussie and there was definitely going to be a contingent from down under at today’s celebrations)
Time to head to the Great Hall in the heart of Athelhampton House where today’s ceremony is to be held, and yes the sun is still shining and its getting warmer
Soon the Great Hall fills with Lisa and Chris’s family and friends and a still nervous Chris takes his place at the front supported by his best men. Soon Lisa arrives in her smart sleek and shiny Bentley and is ready with her father to make her grand entrance. The music plays and Lisa makes her way to Chris, wide smiles as their eyes meet for the first time that day. A touching ceremony followed by the traditional signing of the register and Lisa and Chris exit into the beautiful sunny summers day Mr and Mrs Bartlett at last.
Relaxation, great company, laughter, drinks, canapes and meanderings through the beautiful Athelhampton House gardens, no formal pictures today…just enjoy the good company and warm summer sunshine!
Lisa, Chris and I do slip away for fifteen minutes or so later on to give them a littel quiet time to themselves, a chance to catch their breath and take it all in and to give me a chance to capture a few intimate moments for their album.
Time to head over to the Coach House and long Hall for the wedding breakfast, followed by the funny and touching speeches then of course the cutting of the very yummy looking wedding cake. We move now into the conservatory for the evening celebrations and soon its time for Chris and Lisa to make their way on to the dance floor for their official first dance as man and wife. Half way through the first song and Lisa and Cris are joined by family and friend couples, a very lovely atmosphere indeed.
Before I leave, Chris, Lisa and I head out once more into the Gardens of Athelhampton House just to make the most of the beautiful evening setting sun and to end their photographic coverage for the day with a few more romantic images in the beautiful evening light.
What a fab day and not a drop of rain (or a slightly grumpy looking cloud for that matter) in sight!
Here are a few of my favourite images from the day…

Athelhampton House Dorset Wedding of Kate & Daniel
Kate and Daniel married at the lovely Athelhampton House (once the home of Anne Boleyn, given to her by Henry VIII) in the heart of the Dorset countryside. And once again the rain came down!
Kate got ready at River cottage which nestles neatly in the grounds of the main house with the beautiful river Piddle running past its doors. Normally being so close to the main house, Kate would have walked up the drive to be married, but today in the rain the journey would be a brief one by car.
At last all the guests were seated in the main hall and Daniel at the front was nervously waiting for his bride to be. Kate arrived at the house and out from amongst the shielding umbrellas to walk down the aisle to her waiting man.
We did have a little fortune during the day weather wise and it was just kind enough for us all to get outside to capture Kate and Daniels few chosen family formal shots and then for a short wander through the beautiful Tudor landscaped grounds.
Time for the receiving line aided by the toastmaster whose services Kate and Daniel had acquired for the day and then in for a hearty meal and the speeches and cutting the cake of course.
The evening brought a little better weather and again we were able to take to the gardens for a few more romantic shots. That done Daniel was very keen to try out the giant bouncy castle he and Kate had hired for their guests (no children present mind – well only big ones!!). Then time for the first dance, and the evening began in earnest. All in all a great day and even our lovely English summer couldn’t spoil the celebrations.

Athelhampton House Dorset Wedding of Nerys & Pete
Now I love Athelhampton House, nestled in the heart of the Dorset countryside just down the road from the historic Tolpuddle (apt name as you will see). Once the home of Anne Boleyn, now a beautiful location for the perfect wedding. Wonderful architecture, stunning gardens, with pyramids of Yew and flowers to compliment all seasons. All thats needed to make the recipe perfect (apart from a loving couple of course!) is the gentle beams of delicate spring sunshine. Well that’s an ideal of course, but what we had last Saturday was far far from the ideal (I think you will get the general idea from the theme we have running through the few taster images we have below – Umbrella anyone?), High winds and torrential rain, and then some! All day and all night it pelted down, with exception of a ten minute lull to at least allow a few outside images, even then it was cold and the brolly was never far away. Nerys and Pete are a lovely couple and their love for one another and their family and friends was evident from the very start, so no matter the rain and wind the occasion was a warm and happy one.
