Hi Courtenay

Our favourite picture is this one….

hampshire wedding venue

Malc and I chose The Domus at the Beaulieu National Motor Museum as our wedding venue because as a child my family used to vacation in the New Forest and visited the museum
several times so it held special memories for me and I was grateful that my fiance Malc fully accepted and understood that.  It also resonated with us because we both have a keen interest in classic cars and architecture, and the buildings at this venue really lend themselves to being captured on film creating some beautiful shots. However, it was one of the final shots that Courtenay took, at the end of the day, when we had left Beaulieu and moved to Bucklers Hard to be alone for a while, which really caught our eye because it is so striking.  Produced in black and white, and composed with us as a couple on the far right of the shot and a yacht on the far left with the estuary in the background really is beautiful.  But for me, the
image does more than that.  For me, it evokes happy memories of my childhood spent sailing around the Solent with my father, who passed away in 2005. This image in one glance really does remind us of our special day and shows us sharing our love for one another for just one tiny moment as our new life together begins.

Our three top tips:
1) Decide on your budget then add 10% for contingency – planning a wedding is not an exact science but nor is it a free license to over-spend.  However it is always a good idea to have a back-up portion of money to allow you some flexibility.
2) Ensure you get a good balance of what you as a couple want from the day and what you want to provide for your guests.  It’s easy to worry too much about everyone else and not enough about yourselves. Equally, neglecting your guests and their desire to feel part of your special day would be a bad thing.
3) Arrange your wedding day so that you can take time-out as a couple, even if it’s just for 10 minutes every few hours or so.  Just taking a moment to say I Love You and sharing a kiss in peace and quiet away from everything happening around you acts as a reminder that it’s not about ‘the day’ so much, it’s perhaps more about being married to one another and looking forward to sharing your life with them.

Best wishes

Jan and Malc

Our favourite image from the wedding was this one…

It’s our favourite because we feel it really captures how happy we were on the day, and how close getting married brought us (something we didn’t think was possible!)

Our top tips for wedding planning are:

1) Keep your perspective – it should be fun, it’s just one day in your life, and it doesn’t matter if a few things go a bit wonky on the day, it should all be part of the experience and something to laugh about afterwards.

2) It’s all about communicating with each other, being prepared to compromise a little, and working as a team. It’s better if you both have jobs that you accept proper responsibility for sorting out, and neither gets too controlling or interfering with the other’s tasks. Planning a wedding is a lot of work. Even the most organised bride should be prepared to delegate, or face going mad.

3) Pick a great photographer! The photos are one of the very few things you get to keep from the day and have forever. If they’re not right, you’ll always regret it.

Thanks for asking us to take part.

Best wishes,

Jenny and Adam

Today I would like to introduce you to Kerry and Christopher Barker who got married last year at Brympton D’Evercy House on the 15th October. Here are Kerry and Christopher with their top tips et al…..

Hi Courtenay,

Our favourite picture is this one, we think it says it all….

Brympton D'evercy somerset wedding venue

Our Top Tips:
1) Do not rely solely on a wedding planner or venue to organise your day – Have a set schedule in place so you know what is going to happen and when – Then you can be sure the day goes the way you dream rather than the dreams of others – Set an itinerary and give to all those that have a part to play in your day.

2) Do not get bogged down with the little details of favours etc – So much energy can be spent trying to impress your guests – The day is about you and they should be impressed to be part of that day. Favours cost so much money you could give a sum of money to a charity and inform that guests of your kind gesture – Beats sugared almonds!

3) Enjoy every minute – It flies by – Take moments with your husband to stand back and enjoy.

Best wishes

Kerry and Christopher

Hi Courtenay,

Sorry this has taken so long.  We’ve been putting it off because it is literally an impossible task.  Pick our one favourite photo – you must be kidding!

For favourite photos, we’ve been cheeky and picked two!

This one…

And this one….

Looks like the wedding equivalent of sneaking behind the bike sheds for a cheeky snog!

Our Top tips:

1.  Even if you think that you’ll hate it, go Wedding dress shopping.  I was adamant that I wouldn’t until my softie male boss persuaded me I should, as ‘you’ll hopefully only have one chance in life to try on a wedding dress’ he said.  I picked a friendly, small local shop for my first appointment and it was absolutely THE BEST part of all the preparations.  Grab some girls and enjoy!

2.  If you have wedding wellies, try them BOTH on for size.  Don’t do as I did, try one on, think, yep they’re great, then have Courtenay discover on the morning of our wedding that they were both right feet!  Oops!

3.  Keep calm and carry on!  My Mum gave me this at a perfect time.  Thank you Mum! Keep Calm for Ladies

4.  It’s really bloomin’ hard at times, but try to keep it fun and remember why you’re doing this!  If you need a laugh, maybe these will help:

Bride Top Tips 2012

Welcome to another Bride Top Tips!

Today’s tips come from Claire and Paul Wallis who were married in the Parish church of Llangollen and then went on to the fab Bryn Kinalt Hall in Wales for their reception. If you would like to hear more about Claire and Paul’s wedding, please click on the following link to see their Welsh wedding day story – Bryn Kinalt Hall Wedding

Hi Courtenay

Favourite picture, well two actually! ;-)

Mine is this one -

Bryn Kinalt Hall welsh wedding venue

I am massive romantic and this truly captures our feelings for each other as well as the picturesque location for the day (I look thin and it also misses Paul’s bald patch!!!)
Paul’s is this one -

Bryn Kinalt Hall welsh wedding venue

his comment when I asked,  was that this was the first time that my mum has ever smiled/laughed in his company!! :-)

Three top tips for this years brides…..

1) Don’t panic about whether your guests will enjoy the day …. they are there to be part of your special day and will love it regardless!
2) Rehearse your speech and time – don’t drink too much whilst giving it!!
3) Wedding insurance – best money we ever spent (marquee company went bust on us owing £1500)

Best wishes

Claire & Paul

Bride Top Tips 2012

Good morning all :-)

Today I would like to introduce you to Rebecca and Alex Tsekouras who were married on the 3rd September last year at a fab new venue for me, the very lovely Harry Warren House in Studland Dorset.

To see Rebecca and Alex’s fab wedding story, please just click on the following link – Harry Warren House Wedding

Hi Courtenay,

After much deliberation, we picked the following photo…

Harry warren House dorset wedding venue

Unusual choice you might think, but we love it as it’s a real moment captured without our knowledge, in beautiful surroundings.  The last sunlight of the day is making us glow, and there is a fuschia bush in the shrubbery  – Alex’s favorite and I painted him a picture of one as a present when we were courting!!  Also it’s symbolic that as we walk through life together, it may be uphill sometimes, but we’ll get up there side by side!  So corny I know ;-)

Big tip for 2012 couples would be find a venue where you feel relaxed.  We felt totally at home at Harry Warren House and were proud to welcome our guests there for the stunning scenery and gardens, it made us that little bit more excited about the wedding!
Second big tip would be to design your ceremony to reflect you both as a couple.  We had a totally unique fusion of British, Greek and Jewish traditions in our ceremony (Sandra at Heartfelt Ceremonies was brilliant at helping us achieve this) and every element of it was symbolic and personal.  It was the most special part of the day for us.

All best wishes,
Rebecca & Alex

Bride Top Tips 2012

Very pleased to be able to introduce you today to Francesca and Tim Baldwin with their Top Tips. Francesca and Tim were married on the 18th June last year in their local Church and then had a fabulous Marquee wedding reception back at Francesca’s family home in Burton Bradstock in Dorset. To see Francesca and Tim’s wedding day story, just click the following link – Dorset Wedding

Hi Courtenay,

Our favourite photo is this one….

Dorset country wedding marquee reception

This is because it captures perfectly how we both felt throughout the whole day – relaxed, very happy and having fun. The location is also very special to Francesca as her Grandfather used to drive these hay carts – and the scene set could almost be out of film studio!

Top Tips for Brides:

1. Everybody has a budget – and so decide where you want to spend the most money and which bits you could happily save on.

2. There’s loads of style inspiration from the many wedding blogs on the internet- our favourite was Style me Pretty.

3. If details matter to you, work hard in the lead up to the wedding, but have a cut off point where you can declare you have done everything you can – ours was 48hrs before the service, 3pm on the Thursday, when we stopped working and sat back and enjoyed the final build up and then the whole day.

Many thanks,

Francesca and Tim

Great tips again…more on the way soon!
