Today’s top tips and favourite picture(s) come from Nicola and Andrew Hayes. Nicola and Andrew were married on the 7th May last year at the lovely Somerset wedding venue that is Maunsel House. Hi Courtenay,

Mine and Andy’s favourite picture is this black and white picture in the wedding car (we picked it for the front cover of the album) because it shows our first moment alone as husband and wife and we look really happy.

somerset wedding venue maunsel house

However, all our families loved the one of Andy hugging me from behind on the drive of Maunsel because of the geese waddling in the background – they still think it was set up somehow!

somerset wedding venue mausel house(oh yes I’m a Goose Whisperer didn’t you know!! ;-) )

Our friends all liked the confetti pictures though because they are really natural and they thought it reflected us both because we are screwing up our faces and laughing.

(one of the many!)

To be honest I love all our pictures because they really tell the story of our day and there were so many great moments that you captured. It is really hard to pick just one.

I have tried not to be too obvious in my tips because people tend to say the same thing about the wedding day  so with that in mind my three top tips would be

1. I was really glad I chose the four bridesmaids that I had which were my two sisters, sister in law and best friend. We had such a fun and relaxing morning and it was such a lovely start to the day. As bridesmaids gifts to them they had their hair and make up done as well. Think about who you want to share those memories with when you consider who to ask.
2. Make sure you experience everything you have booked on the day. Regrettably I didn’t eat any canapés, have any ice cream from the tricycle we hired or have any of the much talked about hog roast in the evening (although typically my husband didn’t miss out on any of the food!).  It takes ages to book all these extra touches so try and enjoy them.
3. When our family and friends talk about the wedding they say there were so many personal touches so although it does take time (and lots of double sided tape in my case!) it is worth making what you can. I printed a picture of each guest instead of a place name on the tables and that went down really well and the guests also got to take them home. When we visit people it is nice to see them on their fridges etc.

And finally…
4. Book Courtenay because he is a brilliant photographer and makes you feel relaxed and comfy even when you don’t like having your picture taken like my husband and I! :0)

Hi Courtenay

Our favourite picture is this one….

hampshire wedding venue

Malc and I chose The Domus at the Beaulieu National Motor Museum as our wedding venue because as a child my family used to vacation in the New Forest and visited the museum
several times so it held special memories for me and I was grateful that my fiance Malc fully accepted and understood that.  It also resonated with us because we both have a keen interest in classic cars and architecture, and the buildings at this venue really lend themselves to being captured on film creating some beautiful shots. However, it was one of the final shots that Courtenay took, at the end of the day, when we had left Beaulieu and moved to Bucklers Hard to be alone for a while, which really caught our eye because it is so striking.  Produced in black and white, and composed with us as a couple on the far right of the shot and a yacht on the far left with the estuary in the background really is beautiful.  But for me, the
image does more than that.  For me, it evokes happy memories of my childhood spent sailing around the Solent with my father, who passed away in 2005. This image in one glance really does remind us of our special day and shows us sharing our love for one another for just one tiny moment as our new life together begins.

Our three top tips:
1) Decide on your budget then add 10% for contingency – planning a wedding is not an exact science but nor is it a free license to over-spend.  However it is always a good idea to have a back-up portion of money to allow you some flexibility.
2) Ensure you get a good balance of what you as a couple want from the day and what you want to provide for your guests.  It’s easy to worry too much about everyone else and not enough about yourselves. Equally, neglecting your guests and their desire to feel part of your special day would be a bad thing.
3) Arrange your wedding day so that you can take time-out as a couple, even if it’s just for 10 minutes every few hours or so.  Just taking a moment to say I Love You and sharing a kiss in peace and quiet away from everything happening around you acts as a reminder that it’s not about ‘the day’ so much, it’s perhaps more about being married to one another and looking forward to sharing your life with them.

Best wishes

Jan and Malc

Top tips and favourite picture today come from Jenny and Adam Thomas-Dray. Jenny and Adam were married on the 23rd July last year at the fab Beaulieu in Hampshire. To see their Hampshire wedding story right here on our blog, please click the following link – Beaulieu Wedding

Our favourite image from the wedding was this one…

Beaulieu wedding venue hampshire

It’s our favourite because we feel it really captures how happy we were on the day, and how close getting married brought us (something we didn’t think was possible!)

Our top tips for wedding planning are:

1) Keep your perspective – it should be fun, it’s just one day in your life, and it doesn’t matter if a few things go a bit wonky on the day, it should all be part of the experience and something to laugh about afterwards.

2) It’s all about communicating with each other, being prepared to compromise a little, and working as a team. It’s better if you both have jobs that you accept proper responsibility for sorting out, and neither gets too controlling or interfering with the other’s tasks. Planning a wedding is a lot of work. Even the most organised bride should be prepared to delegate, or face going mad.

3) Pick a great photographer! The photos are one of the very few things you get to keep from the day and have forever. If they’re not right, you’ll always regret it.

Thanks for asking us to take part.

Best wishes,

Jenny and Adam

Here are Kerry and Christopher with their top tips et al…..

Hi Courtenay,

Our favourite picture is this one, we think it says it all….

Brympton D'evercy somerset wedding venue

Our Top Tips:
1) Do not rely solely on a wedding planner or venue to organise your day – Have a set schedule in place so you know what is going to happen and when – Then you can be sure the day goes the way you dream rather than the dreams of others – Set an itinerary and give to all those that have a part to play in your day.

2) Do not get bogged down with the little details of favours etc – So much energy can be spent trying to impress your guests – The day is about you and they should be impressed to be part of that day. Favours cost so much money you could give a sum of money to a charity and inform that guests of your kind gesture – Beats sugared almonds!

3) Enjoy every minute – It flies by – Take moments with your husband to stand back and enjoy.

Best wishes

Kerry and Christopher

Hi Courtenay,

Sorry this has taken so long.  We’ve been putting it off because it is literally an impossible task.  Pick our one favourite photo – you must be kidding!

For favourite photos, we’ve been cheeky and picked two!

This one…

And this one….

Looks like the wedding equivalent of sneaking behind the bike sheds for a cheeky snog!

Our Top tips:

1.  Even if you think that you’ll hate it, go Wedding dress shopping.  I was adamant that I wouldn’t until my softie male boss persuaded me I should, as ‘you’ll hopefully only have one chance in life to try on a wedding dress’ he said.  I picked a friendly, small local shop for my first appointment and it was absolutely THE BEST part of all the preparations.  Grab some girls and enjoy!

2.  If you have wedding wellies, try them BOTH on for size.  Don’t do as I did, try one on, think, yep they’re great, then have Courtenay discover on the morning of our wedding that they were both right feet!  Oops!

3.  Keep calm and carry on!  My Mum gave me this at a perfect time.  Thank you Mum! Keep Calm for Ladies

4.  It’s really bloomin’ hard at times, but try to keep it fun and remember why you’re doing this!  If you need a laugh, maybe these will help:

Welcome to another Bride Top Tips!

Today’s tips come from Claire and Paul Wallis who were married in the Parish church of Llangollen and then went on to the fab Bryn Kinalt Hall in Wales for their reception. If you would like to hear more about Claire and Paul’s wedding, please click on the following link to see their Welsh wedding day story – Bryn Kinalt Hall Wedding

Hi Courtenay

Favourite picture, well two actually! ;-)

Mine is this one -

Bryn Kinalt Hall welsh wedding venue

I am massive romantic and this truly captures our feelings for each other as well as the picturesque location for the day (I look thin and it also misses Paul’s bald patch!!!)
Paul’s is this one -

Bryn Kinalt Hall welsh wedding venue

his comment when I asked,  was that this was the first time that my mum has ever smiled/laughed in his company!! :-)

Three top tips for this years brides…..

1) Don’t panic about whether your guests will enjoy the day …. they are there to be part of your special day and will love it regardless!
2) Rehearse your speech and time – don’t drink too much whilst giving it!!
3) Wedding insurance – best money we ever spent (marquee company went bust on us owing £1500)

Best wishes
