So, back to one of my most favourite of wedding locations, Maunsel House just outside the lovely Somerset village of North Newton (near Taunton). The day broke to rain, rain, rain, oh and wind to boot….Oh great!! Now whilst I don’t mind working in wind and rain, I always feel sorry for my couples who have spent months, if not years planning and dreaming about their perfect day, and wind and rain doesn’t usually come into it!
Anyway I drive over to Maunsel House and on the way the weather actually seems to brighten a little. On arriving at Maunsel, I head straight back down the drive (on foot) to find the boys (and one girl) in a field, guns in hand, ready to blast to kingdom come any clay pigeon that dared show its……head?!! Great fun, and I wouldn’t mind swapping my kind of shooting for the other kind, well at least to have a go, but my job is to capture the fun and thats exactly what I do.
Back to the Country House and to the fabulous Kings Room, where the lovely Bride (Michelle) and her entourage are readying for the days festivities ahead. Maunsel House is now bustling with activity, last touches to decorations are being made, the splendid chocolate wedding cake arrives (mmmm), the beautiful wedding bouquets and intimate touches with tea-lights, ribbons and alike.
At last its time for the ceremony, and Michelle makes her way down the splendid Maunsel House staircase to find her (somewhat nervous) waiting groom, Chris. A touching intimate ceremony follows, with plenty of laughter, and the Bride and Groom emerge Mr and Mrs Regent at last!

Now the rain has gone (excellent), and drinks are taken to the lawn. The wind however still has some force and soon guests find themselves back in the warmth of the house enjoying their Pimms. At last the sun makes an appearance and its outside again for a few family formals and then a quiet wander with Chris and Michelle for those more intimate pictures for the album.
Back into the house, Michelle and Chris cut their Chocolate Wedding Cake and then into the dining room to take their places for the wedding breakfast. Speeches take place before the meal, always a good idea I think, especially for those unaccustomed to speaking in public.
After the wedding breakfast, everyone moves into various parts of the wonderfully eclectic Maunsel house with their coffees and to the bar of course whilst the dining room is prepared for the evening entertainment.
At last its time for the first dance and the wonderful rock covers band Livewires, kicks in. So with rock band in mind you can imagine Michelle and Chris’s dance is not the usual slow shuffle around the dance floor…brilliant. Soon the dance floor is full, as the first dance ends and Livewires takes the tempo up another notch and Michelle and Chris are joined by their family and friends to dance the night away.

Another great Wedding at Maunsel House!

Maunsel House Somerset Wedding of Zena & Lee

Another fantastic Autumn day, it really has been lovely lately. I’m off to one of my favourite locations for a wedding, Maunsel House in Somerset.
I arrive and go straight up to the Kings Room (Bridal Suite) to find Zena and her Bridesmaids getting ready. The usual hair, make-up shots, flowers arrive and the dressing of the Bride and its then off to the Church, St Peters in North Newton just down the road. I meet up with Lee and the boys at the church and settle down to capture the arrival of guests and setting the general scene.
At last its time for everyone to head into St Peters and soon Zena arrives in a beautiful vintage Rolls Royce. A very nervous Zena steadies herself, takes a deep breath and is away down the aisle to her waiting man. A touching ceremony, register signed and its out into the glorious sunshine to be showered with confetti, now off to Maunsel House for the reception.
Pimms on the lawn, relaxing in the warm sunshine a singer in the pagoda, perfect! A few family formals achieved and then a quiet wander with Zena and Lee to give them a chance to catch their breath and for me to capture a few quiet moments. Back to the house now and in for the wedding breakfast, then the hilarious speeches followed by the cutting of the wedding cake. Time for everyone to vacate to the various rooms of Maunsel House for coffee, whilst the main room is turned round ready for the evening festivities. Soon more guests are arriving and its time to go back to the main room for Zena and Lee’s first dance. Funktydumpty a top southwest based band kick us off and soon the dance floor is in full swing. Its time for the band to take a break and we go outside again to find the Hog Roast ready to serve, Zena and Lee also have chosen this moment to release their wishes in the Sky (or Sky Lanterns) and there are enough for almost everyone to release, I have to say they looked really beautiful soaring up and floating away into the night sky. My time to say farewell, another lovely wedding at Maunsel House .

Maunsel House Somerset Wedding of Rachel & Chris

Well a beautiful misty crisp Autumnal day, the day of Rachel and Chris’s wedding. I arrive with the boys at a friends house just down the road to Maunsel House in Somerset to start off the day. All the guys were in good humour and soon suits were being adorned and sandwiches consumed all with the usual good banter and I have to add with extreme calm.
Off to Maunsel house to join the girls and their preparations. Rachel and the girls were very busy with hair and makeup and again everyone in great humour. Afer capturing much of the usual preparations I wander off around the house to capture some of the little details and general ambiance.
Guests now arriving and then the Groom and his merry men, back upstairs to capture a few last images with the girls and then Rachel’s Dad arrives – time to go downstairs to be married!
The ceremony itself was a very beautiful and touching affair and I have to say many a tear was shed. At last married Rachel and Chris exited triumphantly man and wife.
Everyone spilled out into the gardens (although a few did elect to stay by some of the big beautiful roaring fires) to socialise with a glass of Pimms. At last the mists began to lift and the beautiful Autumnal sunshine filtered through. Three formal pictures to done and dusted and Rachel Chris and I wandered off for a few quite romantic shots and a little catch up time for the two of them.
Time for the reception and speeches were first order of the day – hilarious and touching all and again many a tear was shed. After the wonderful meal Rachel Chris and their guests meandered through the beautiful estate grounds to its own lovely small chapel (and when I say small it was a real squeeze to get everyone in – but this just added to the sense of togetherness this touching occasion was truly all about) where Rachel and Chris were to have their marriage blessed.
Back from the ceremony and darkness was beginning to descend, evening guests were arriving and now the moment to cut the cake. This done the happy couple proceeded next door to find the band all set and the first dance commenced. The band kicked in and the dance floor was full within seconds.Just before half past ten the call came for everyone to make their way outside into the crisp starlit night…Fireworks, fantastic.
My time to bid farewell, what a great day!

Maunsel House Somerset wedding of Holly & Kelvin

(by Ian)
The weather in the lead-up to the wedding was atrocious, but luckily it held out on the day. The wedding party hired Maunsell House in Somerset for the weekend – an English country house where you have the run of the place and you treat it like your own home, no other guests, just a huge pad to chill out in.

Holly and her friends were relaxing with champagne when I arrived at 12, jeans and t-shirts being the order of the day. She’d told everyone to be ready by 2 for the photos. I wandered around, taking some detail shots, until just after 1pm when I got the call to go up to the bride’s room where the girls were getting ready – a HUGE room with an enormous 4 poster-bed and the usual girlie prep paraphernalia. The CD was playing swing music (a love of Holly & Kelvin) and a really relaxed atmosphere. Holly was being given away by her best friend Richard, and the guys were getting themselves organised in the other rooms (Kelvin and Zoran were staying in a local pub).

At the Church there was no parking apart from the “official church car park for weddings” – so it was down the lane, into a turning, through the gate and into a field – complete with grazing cows! Cows = poo, of course, and plenty of cow pats, which gave me a great shot of a couple stepping gingerly across the grass with dress hitched up. The theme for the wedding was 40s/50s glamour, so the guys were in DJs and the girls in their posh frocks. Holly arrived by 2:45, and a few latecomers who had been enjoying the local pub received a panic phone call from one of the ushers to get them down to the Church. Holly held back in the doorway to let them in!

Outside after the ceremony Holly didn’t want confetti, so cones of lavender were out for the guests to throw. Witha tradiitonal line-up, Holly & Kerlvin walked down the ‘aisle’ and got showered – the expression on Holly’s face in the last few shots was a picture as she recieved a large quantity down the front of her dress!

Back at Maunsell House a string quartet entertained during the usual post-ceremony socialising, people chilling and drinking cocktails. The menu was planned to be good and simple – bangers and mash, great stuff!

The speeches require a special mention: They met through a joint friend when Holly was working at 3i in London – she fancied the geeky one in Accounts, which as Kelvin pointed out is like saying “I fancy the tall basketball player”! Seems their families knew each other in the East End. Little known fact about Holly – she once dated David Beckham.
Richard’s speech showed that they’re almost lifelong friends and even planned to retire to the same nursing home, bribing the staff to bring them vodka and Jack Daniels!
Zoran’s (best man) speech was in one word hilarious! Absolutely the best speech I’ve ever heard. Witty, (mostly) clean, but loads of stories about their time at Bath University. Zoran had the entire party in tears, tremendous stuff.

In the evening the swing band arrived and set up – tremendous music, and really had everyone going. These guys love dancing! They were probably the happiest group I’ve had the pleasure to photograph.
So thank you, Holly & Kelvin, for a truly fun, and special wedding.
